Chapman Food Mart - A Hometown Gem

Chapman, KS, a rural town with approximately 1,400 residents, has a reason to celebrate. On February 16, 2015, a full-service grocery store called the Chapman Food Mart, opened. The store is owned by Doug Thompson, a local attorney, and operated by Ann and Kenny Bush.

Prior to February, the closest grocery store was about 12 miles away, making it hard for senior citizens and others to do their grocery shopping. “No longer is it necessary to plan a grocery shopping trip outside the area,” Thompson states. “Now residents of Chapman and the surrounding area can travel a short distance multiple times for grocery shopping without the necessity to ‘stock up.’”

With a full-service deli, the 8,000 square foot store offers lunch and evening meals. Customers take advantage of their services and appreciate that it offers more than just groceries. “The Chapman Food Mart has an excellent meat market with meats cut fresh, daily and to meet the customers' demands,” says Thompson.

The opening of a local grocery store can reignite community members’ pride for their town and bring about unity. Thompson explains that the Chapman Food Mart has done just that, “The opening of the Chapman Food Mart has energized the community. It has proven that a full-service grocery store in a small town can be an important anchor to the stability of a community.”

“The store has earned an excellent reputation for quality products at affordable costs,” says Thompson. Stop by and see for yourself. They are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
